Welcome to the Art Room at West Hardin!
Wow! This school year will be my 34th and final beginning
of a school year. Yes, you read correctly. I have finally decided that this is
my last year to teach art in the public school system. To be honest, it is very
bittersweet. There will be many things that I will miss about teaching art. It
is a joy to see the creativity that just flows out of some of the students. It
is also rewarding to see the student who has not had success in other areas to
finally have success in art with that success spilling out into other areas. I
will miss the laughter that happens in the classroom and with my colleagues.
For sure, I will not miss the mounds of paperwork and various new “hoops” that
teachers have to endure. Many of those things will pass, but only to be replaced
by two or three new things. Sigh Anyway, I am
ready for the new things in my life to be the new things that I choose to do.
It is time for me to break out my art supplies and create the things that have
been waiting to come forth. Some of you might be wondering why I don’t do those
things now, but the day of a teacher certainly extends well past 3:15. Plus, my
creative energy gets spent with the students and that doesn’t leave much for
me.
During Open House last week, I saw many former students who are now bringing their child to my school. By the way, last year I had one “grandchild” in my class! I had his grandmother…yes, I said "grandmother" in class my very first year of teaching back in the fall of 1981. Wow! Anyway, some of these parents just stopped by to see me, but told me that their child was not scheduled to be in my class this year. It made me feel good to know that some of those parents made a trip to the counseling office to see if they could squeeze them into my class before I leave.
Even though I have announced my retirement, I intend to teach the full school year. In fact, I intend to make this one of my best years ever. I have plans for new projects to implement this year. I also want to give the students more opportunities to exhibit their art or to be involved in contests. My plan is to go out on a high note! With the help of the Good Lord, I will.
Thanks for taking time to read this message and I hope you have a blessed day.

I am so very excited to see that people are checking in on the
website. I'm so glad you visited! I know many of the visits are school related, but I just can't help wondering how those of you who don’t seem to be directly involved with my school found the website. If you don't mind, would you please send me a comment to let me know what brought you to this page? Again, thanks for stopping by! By the way, I'm so thrilled to know that at this time, over 300 viewers have stumbled across this website. Wow! The majority of the visits have been from local folks and I thank you for your viewership. I am also rather amazed that I now have visitors from several other states! Again, I not only say thanks, but also, "WOW!" IF this wasn't already great, I can now say I have viewers from another country. Canada, many thanks to you for being my first “out of the US” viewer. I do have to admit, that another wish/goal of mine is that I will begin to have more viewers from countries all around this great world! Viewers, I would really, really appreciate it if you would send a comment telling me a bit about yourself. Oh, and if you have your own art class/blog, etc. please let me know. I find that we learn so much from each other. |
